Got questions? We are here for you!
What happens during my first consultation?
The consultation is a no-pressure conversation to get to know you and your needs. This is also an opportunity for you to share any questions or concerns and discover whether our approach feels right for you with absolutely no pressure or obligation.
Is therapy confidential?
Absolutely. Your privacy is important to us.
Do you work with both parents in co-parenting situations?
Yes. We support co-parents by sharing structured updates with both parties, maintaining transparency while respecting privacy and legal guidelines. You’ll both stay informed and involved.
Is the first consultation paid?
We offer a free initial consultation to ensure the best possible therapeutic relationship from the start. This no-obligation meeting allows you to share what you’re looking for in a therapist, ask questions about their approach, and discuss your concerns in a pressure-free environment. It’s equally important for us to understand your unique needs and determine if we’re the right fit for your mental health journey.
This initial session helps establish trust and rapport, which are essential foundations for effective therapy. You can explore our treatment methods, learn about what to expect, and make an informed decision about moving forward. We believe that finding the right therapeutic match shouldn’t come with financial risk, so this consultation gives you the opportunity to feel confident and comfortable before committing to ongoing care.
What kinds of challenges do you help with?
We support children and teens struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, emotional regulation, school stress, obsessive compulsive disorder, behaviour issues, social struggles, identity exploration, low self-esteem, grief, substance abuse, relationship development, and major life changes such as divorce or a new diagnosis (ADHD, autism, etc.).
What if my child is shy, resistant, or refuses therapy?
That’s common, and okay. We meet your child where they are at, using creative, and age-appropriate techniques to help them feel safe. Sessions begin gently to build trust and comfort.
Do you offer therapy for teens too?
Yes. We offer comprehensive clinical services for both adult and adolescent populations, employing developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions tailored to each client’s age, psychological readiness, and presenting concerns. Our practitioners are specifically trained to address the unique developmental needs, cognitive capabilities, and life circumstances of different age groups, ensuring that treatment approaches are both clinically effective and developmentally suitable for optimal therapeutic outcomes.
How do payments and insurance work?
We offer transparent pricing, sliding scale options, and payment plans. Some insurance plans may cover sessions, and we’re happy to guide you through that process
Can therapy actually help my child?
Yes, when done right, therapy helps children and teens develop tools to handle emotions, build confidence, improve relationships, and grow resilience. It can also help parents feel more equipped and supported.
What types of therapy do you use with children and teens?
Our team uses a mix of evidence-based approaches, including play therapy, CBT, family systems therapy, EMDR (when appropriate), behaviour support strategies, and more. Each child’s plan is tailored to what works for them.
What if my child doesn’t have a diagnosis?
No problem. You don’t need a diagnosis to begin therapy. If you’ve noticed changes in behaviour, mood, or daily functioning, that’s reason enough to reach out.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice for appointment cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 business hours’ notice, as well as no-shows, will incur the full session fee. To cancel an appointment, please contact our office at 289-547-5911 or email us at info@criticaltraumatherapy.com. Please note that we do not accept cancellations via text message.
